I had read a suggestion that MS had several versions of X1 chipset/motherboard hardware all on the table and being tested and that the final choice was made around the time of the Sony reveal.
This was before the increase to the CPU/GPU clocks. The cooling and power profile of the X1 may also allow a further increase to the GPU as I'd read that the part can go 900Mhz-1Ghz.
Obviously all speculation and I don't say its the truth but equally as plausibl...

It's actually rather good. Picture and sound is excellent - a worthy competitor for Blu Ray. My copy of the Forbidden Planet remastered is the same as the BR.
It's a shame it didn't catch on. MS should have included it in the 360.

I played the Xbox 1 version on a pc at Eurogamer using X1 pad. That looked a lot higher than 720 but then it wasn't on the right hardware.
Time will tell.
I know you get hammered a lot or being very pro Xbox, but I have to say I agree on this occasion completely.

Having used both consoles at Eurogamer (X1 is a LOT better than this site makes out) and played all of the key launch titles.
The sheer amount of information coming out of MS and the wealth of evidence of the games quality from RYSE to BF4 to Forza. I know how good these are on X1 but it's nice to see the word sp...
Interesting this debate. We must consider that as EA are having a love in with MS it's likely that the console versions will be comparable. I'm not convinced either console can do 1080/60 on a game like this.
I played BF4 on X1 at Eurogamer and I'm certain it's resolution was a lot higher than 720 but I don't think 1080. The thing is the X1 apparently has a really good scaler which can make an image look better than perhaps it is.

Like you say it's about preferences. I've used both controllers already and there is no reason not to like either. DS4 is a big improvement as are the changes to the Xbox pad. The rumble triggers on the X1 pad are really good imo.
It's sensible that Sony considered all options. Personally I still prefer the Xbox pad layout but choice is good :)

Great numbers all round but I really dislike the way in which the 'pre order' is now used to judge the success of a product before its even in the public domain. Its almost like a political opinion poll in terms of trying to determine a likely outcome.
The pre order was introduced to ensure product availability in a situation where supply was limited (such as new consoles where its properly used). Now its been bastardized by companies into a method of securing purchas...

If I was buying a PS4 at launch I might be slightly concerned at the delay of 2 key games to the point where I might delay my purchase until the games library is well stocked. As it is I couldn't blame anyone for considering the same espec...
This is what makes me excited about X1 specifically from what I have read in various tech is discussions.....not all points proven/confirmed.
Lots of Ram + 8GB flash for quick suspend/OS.
Low latency system but with high bandwidth.
Hardware based multitasking for apps/ reserved resources.
Twin or better display panes for app snap and twin renders.
Hardware acceleration for data move/compress and extract.

Agree but I have also had some pretty epic lone wolf sniper sessions although I guess I am also supporting my team by spotting/ using uav etc. it's quite fun being the hunter.
The part that literally made me crack up laughing was the thread on GAF where they were rubbishing the ELBOWS!!!!! Of one of the characters.
I mean that was all they could come up with. I think there are a lot of shocked Sony fans on GAF right now. Shame as the game is great for all of us gamers.
